"Green" Housing in Charleston SC Charleston SC Real Estate Charleston South Carolina Real Estate has gotten on the "green" bandwagon. Buyers searching in the tri-county area now have a wide selection of homes to choose from that are environmentally friendly, healthy and energy-efficient. Terms such as Earthcraft certified, LEED certified, Energy Star rated and HERS rated are becoming more common as builders and sellers market their homes and neighborhoods. Energy-Efficient Mortgages might provide an attractive option for those looking to purchase or refinance homes that meet specific "green" requirements. As a starting point, I have listed several Charleston area neighborhoods and builders that are incorporating some degree of "green" into the construction practices and features of their homes. Downtown Charleston

One Cool Blow, the condominium project near the new Cooper River bridge is LEED certified. West Ashley

In the Hunt Club neighborhood, Brentwood Homes is currently offering several homes that are built to Earthcraft standards and include Energy Star features. Ryland Homes in Bolton Landing and David Weekly Homes are building homes with Energy Star features. James Island

Brentwood Homes has recently started building Earthcraft homes in the Terrabrook neighborhood. Cline Homes is well under way in Cloud Break Court and building homes with Energy Star features. Johns Island

If you are looking for an Earthcraft home on Johns Island there are a couple of options. Brentwood Homes is just finishing up their Summertrees neighborhood and has just started construction at The Retreat at Johns Island. North Charleston

For Earthcraft homes in North Charleston, Oak Terrace Preserve is well underway and featuring homes constructed by Centex and Brentwood Homes. A local builder has recently started construction in the gated community of Hunley Waters. Baker Plantation is another Brentwood Homes neighborhood in the North Charleston area featuring Earthcraft rated homes. The new neighborhood of Mixson features homes that are LEED certified. KB Home is offering both town homes and single family homes that have Energy Star features in Charleston Park. Mt. Pleasant

The Mt. Pleasant area also offers homes constructed to Earthcraft standards. Brentwood Homes is building in the Carolina Park and Rivertowne on the Wando neighborhoods. Summerville has Earthcraft constructed homes as well. Sabal Homes has built a series of town homes in Wescott Plantation and single family homes in Branch Creek. Indigo Palms, Highwoods Plantation and Limehouse are all neighborhoods featuring Earthcraft homes built by Brentwood. Manorhouse Builders is constructing Earthcraft homes in the Fieldview neighborhood. KB Home in Blackberry Creek, Davis Weekly Homes in The Bluffs at Ashley River and Sintra Homes in Daniel's Orchard are building single family homes that include Energy Star features. In Cane Bay Plantation Centex and First Coast Homes are building homes that incorporate Energy Star features. Goose Creek

Brentwood is building Earthcraft homes in the Coker's Crossing neighborhood. First Coast Homes is building homes that include Energy Star features in Medway Landing. Moncks Corner

Foxbank Plantation features Earthcraft homes constructed by Sabal Homes and homes with Energy Star features by David Weekly Homes. Hanahan

KB Home is offering single family homes that have Energy Star features in their section of Tanner Plantation. The list is growing everyday!
